A Christmas Table

I am sure that my mother in law cringes every time she thinks about the way we do mealtime around these parts. It typically involves plastic IKEA plates and a quick wipe-off of the crayon stained counter top, and we call it good. She, however, sets the kind of tables you only see in magazines. Opulent, themed, and detailed; we're talking miniature individual salt and pepper shakers here, people. So here is the best I can bring for the Christmas season. Sorry, but there's not a miniature salt shaker in sight.

My sister in law showed me how to make the menu holder. There's a tutorial over at Shanty2Chic.
I hung snowflakes from the chandelier with clear string.
I had a cute string of picture frames that my kids broke this week, and I thought, "Perfect- Placecards!" So I colored names on burlap and put them in the picture frames.

These babies were Erika's idea. And totally free, I might add. I just traced out a stocking shape on some spare fabric, sewed it together with a bit of cream colored burlap for the cuff, and presto! The silverware has a snuggie! :)

And this banner was a piece of cake, and a cute way to trim the edge of your table. I just printed out the words to Silent Night, cut them out and backed them with fabric, cut holes to run a length of jute through it all, and that's IT! Oh, I also burned the paper on my oven to make it less stark white, but I don't encourage anyone out there to do the same- you might burn your house down.

So there you have it, my best attempt at a Christmas Table. Hope you enjoyed it!

  1. Miriam, your table is absolutely gorgeous and much more creative than my table settings ever hope to be! I especially love that you did it on a shoestring budget! I only wish I had half your talent and then I wouldn't have to use cute little salt and pepper shakers to create interest!
